The Film Institute of Greenland (Kalaallit Nunaanni Filminstitutti) is located in Nuuk, Greenland. As the nation’s first official film institute, launched in 2026, it offers critical competence and financial support to Greenlandic filmmakers for the development, production, and distribution of local feature films, shorts, and documentaries. Through our own cinematic voices, we preserve Inuit culture, celebrate Arctic narratives, and protect our language and heritage. By claiming our narrative sovereignty, we shape our own future.

The institute’s international presence builds upon years of groundwork laid by the local filmmaking community, including Film.GL, to act as an essential gateway to the global screen industry. As the newest member of the Indigenous Cinema Alliance (ICA), the institute is dedicated to expanding international market visibility, securing co-productions, and creating culturally safe spaces for our artists. These global partnerships serve as crucial meeting points for Greenlandic storytellers to collaborate, grow professionally, and share authentic stories from the Arctic directly with the world.
